PS4 news: PS5 release date, Kingdom Hearts 3 reveal, Final Fantasy 7 Remake updateOn March 12, 2018 by Margot
The PS4 and PS4 Pro are still selling well for Sony, nearly five years after the original console’s release.
But while there are still plenty of new exclusive games in the works and PlayStation VR titles on the horizon, fans are looking to what comes next.
The tech giant haven’t said much about the PS5 release date, only that there will be a new console replacing the PS4 in the future.
The latest predictions suggest that we won’t see Sony’s next big hardware release until 2020.
The thinking behind this is sound, and seems to fit with what we know about the company’s plans.
But new rumours suggest that the PS5 release date could be coming a little sooner.
The latest is that Sony have already sent out PS5 dev kits to third party game developers.
This reportedly happened earlier this year and could be a sign that Sony will announce something late in 2018.
The source of the information is video games journalist, Marcus Sellars, who has leaked other big pieces of news recently.
One of was the announcement of a new Nintendo Direct, with Crash Bandicoot as a one of the titles featured.
As always, these rumours should be taken with a big pinch of salt, although there not the only big PS5 news this week.
Sony could launch the PS5 with backwards compatibility for PS4 games, if a new patent is anything to go by.11
Fans hoping the Final Fantasy 7 Remake will get a Nintendo Switch port have been given a boost.
The Nintendo Switch recently celebrated its first birthday, and in that time it’s already received big support from Square Enix.
The Japanese gaming giants have already released games such as I Am Sestina, Lost Sphear and Dragon Quest Builders for the hybrid console.
Square Enix are also releasing Dragon Quest XI for the Switch this year, and Project Octopath Traveler and The World Ends With You: Final Remix also in the works.
With the Switch selling so well in its native Japan (as well as around the world), plenty of Japanese developers are flocking to Nintendo’s hit console.
And Square Enix’s president and CEO Yosuke Matsuda has said there are “a lot” of people at the Japanese gaming giant looking to make games for the Switch.
He said: “They (our eShop titles) haven’t done badly! Obviously it only came out last March, so it hasn’t been long, but of all the publishers who are working on Switch we’ve done quite a few things.
“It’s a very attractive platform – there are a lot of people within the company that are looking to make games for Switch.”
While Matsuda-san didn’t mention the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Nintendo Switch fans will surely be holding out hope the FF7 revival makes its way to their console.
There’s also been a big update on Square Enix’s other big game, Kingdom Hearts 3.
Series director Tetsuya Nomura has revealed that there are still more unrevealed worlds for Kingdom Hearts 3, Gaming Bolt reported.
Nomura-san said: “There are still more unrevealed worlds.”
He added: “There is one world that is distinct from the others.”
The latter comment is particularly interesting, especially considering the huge amount of franchises Disney owns.
Could there possibly be a Marvel or Star Wars world, or maybe a world that combines characters from these two huge cinematic universes?
While fans may be salivating at the prospective at that, they shouldn’t have too long to wait for confirmation.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is meant to be released sometime in 2018, with Square Enix previously saying release dates for a number of big games would be revealed before E3 2018.11
